MN Lax Hub Spotlight Game

Talk about an intriguing early season matchup. Orono, just a few years removed from playing at the club level, knocked off Wayzata 11-10 in overtime in last year's Section 8 championship game on a goal by Parker Gross. Now the neighboring teams -- their west suburban schools separated by a mere eight miles -- meet again to start the 2014 season, and another hotly contested matchup is expected. The Trojans return the bulk of their lineup, including high-scoring Grant Long and Max Stecker, both juniors, and senior Brian Machut. Orono, which won the consolation title at last year's state tourney, is led by Gross, a 24-goal scorer last season, and Division I commits Chandler Sampson, a senior attackman headed to UMass-Lowell and Blake Leischow, a sophomore midfielder who has committed to play for Duke.
