No. 1 Eden Prairie at No. 11 Benilde-St. Margaret's
7 p.m., Tuesday, April 15

Benilde-St. Margaret's won a state title in 2007, the first year lacrosse was sponsored as a varsity sport by the MSHSL, and the Red Knights won back-to-back state championships in 2010-11. Once the undisputed premier state program, Benilde-St. Margaret's ceded that title to 2012 champion Eastview and now reigning state champ Eden Prairie could lay claim to being the state's marquis program with another championship. The Red Knights, meanwhile, haven't reached the state tournament in each of the last two years and sit at No. 11 in this year's preseason coaches' poll, but they do return standouts Jacob Donlin at long-stick midfielder and 23-goal scorer Josh Werkmeister at attack. Consensus preseason No. 1 Eden Prairie is again loaded with talent, and there's no more spectacular player in the state than sophmore J.D. Spielman, a midfielder who scored the winning goal in the closing seconds against Eastview in last year's state championship game. Senior Max Fahey is widely regarded as the state's best goaltender.
