Eden Prairie at Wayzata
7:30 p.m., Monday, April 21
MN Lax Hub Spotlight Game

Eden Prairie lost several standout players to graduation last season, none more significant than Mr. Lacrosse winner Jake Woodring. So that season-opening loss to Benilde-St. Margaret’s can be explained away, at least in part, to a team needing to get its reshuffled roster in synch.

A few lineup tweaks later and Eden Prairie was routing Edina behind a six-point (three goals, three assists) effort from senior attackman Charlie Venable. Sophomore midfielder J.D. Spielman is also off to a hot start (six goals, one assist through two games) and his speed and scoring ability presents Wayzata's defense -- any defense, for that matter -- with major matchup problems.

No major adjustments of any kind have been needed for the Trojans this season. They feature one of the state’s goal-scoring leaders in senior attackman Brian Machut (seven in two games) and the top goaltender based on save percentage in junior goaltender Aaron Peterson (.852).

Wayzata trots out multisport athletes all over the field (Machut also plays hockey), none more notable that basketball and football standout Grant Long. A junior midfielder, Long has four goals and two assists.
