Orono at Bloomington Jefferson
6 p.m., Thursday, May 22
Orono went 3-2 during a sluggish start to the season, but the Spartans have been rolling for the better part of a month. They have won five straight and are facing an incredibly tough week, starting with defending state champion Eden Prairie on Tuesday and then completing the regular season Thursday at No. 5 Bloomington Jefferson. Senior Chandler Sampson has a team-high 29 goals, and super sophomore Blake Leischow has 26 goals and 21 assists for a team-best 47 points. The Jaguars had lost three straight before beating Lakeville South last Thursday. Jefferson is not a prolific scoring team. It went through an early May stretch of six games – four of them losses – where it failed to reach double digits. Sophomore Ryan Graff does the bulk of the scoring. His 24 goals easily outdistance the 15 posted by the Jaguars’ No. 2 goal scorer, senior Nolan Miles.
