Orange Crush has been used but some type of nickname for White Bear Lake’s offense seems appropriate.

Asserting themselves early, the No. 3-seed Bears scored nine goals by halftime in a 19-2 rout of state tournament newcomer Maple Grove on Tuesday at Minnetonka High School.

Senior attackman Matt Swanson finished with eight goals in the game, breaking the former state tournament record of six held by Blake’s Kip Dooley since 2008.

“I’ve never scored that many goals in a game,” Swanson said. “It was definitely exciting but I just do what the team needs me to do. Today it was goals, tomorrow it might be assists.”

As long as it’s something to fuel the powerful White Bear Lake (16-1) offense. Maple Grove (15-2) became the fifth consecutive opponent to give up 15 or more Bears’ goals. Charles Bill and Joey Goudreau each scored three times.

“We have a lot of chemistry and we know how to push the ball,” Anderson said. “We like to go fast.”
