It wasn’t enough for Carly Fedorowski to see Stillwater win by nine goals.

“We definitely wanted more (goals),” Fedorowski said after her team cruised past Roseville 13-4 in the Section 4 championship Tuesday night at Roseville High School, clinching its sixth straight state tournament appearance.

Fedorowski will have to settle for a margin of nine, as her two goals and two assists, along with Olivia Konigson’s five goals, fueled the top-seeded Ponies' victory over the third-seeded Raiders (9-7).

Stillwater (15-1) stifled talented Roseville attacker Ciara Colvard throughout the game, holding the 58-goal scorer to just two on Tuesday night.

“We play man-to-man defense and body defense,” Stillwater coach Rick Reidt said, who added that the Ponies didn't focus on slowing down Colvard.

“No special attention to any one player, just doubling the ball hard early (in the game). Nothing different than what we’ve done all year,” Reidt said.

After placing five players on the 2016 Minnesota Girls’ Lacrosse Coaches Association All-State team, the arsenal of talent in the Ponies’ lineup is evident.

Stillwater was also ranked fourth in the season's final coaches’ poll.

“We have a lot of threats, a lot of girls who can score, which will be helpful this year (at state),” Fedorowski said.

Fedorowski, Konigson, senior goaltender Katie Lottsfeldt and senior defender Samantha Houle were first team all-state selections, while senior attacker Caitlin Carter was named to the second team.

Konigson has proven herself as a legitimate offensive force this season, racking up 46 goals after registering 10 last year.

Konigson is also one of several Ponies with the ability to motor past the competition, routinely beating defenders with pure speed, and she said that speed is helpful all over the field.

The junior also said qualifying for the state tournament never gets old.

“It’s just as exciting every year, and we look forward to it,” Konigson said. “It’s great to be back again.”
