Maple Grove has won 15 of 16 games this season, and no opponent has come within four goals of the Crimson since May 6.

They haven't lost in a month.

On Wednesday night, Maple Grove continued its dominant play with a 14-4 win over Osseo/Park Center in the Section 8 championship and is headed to its second state tournament in three seasons.

"They have been playing lights out lately,” Crimson coach Hailey Corradi said. “We knew we had to come out on fire, and that’s the best game I’ve ever seen these girls play."

Maple Grove (15-1), ranked No. 10 in the latest coaches' poll, scored eight unanswered goals in one stretch of the game, thanks to a stifling defense with a penchant for intercepting opposing passes and sparking the transition game.

“Or defense did a phenomenal job staying with cutters and didn’t give up the entire game,” senior forward Hailey Herdine said.

Herdine scored a game-high four goals in the win while sister Emily, a freshman midfielder, scored three.

Herdine said sharing the experience of a state tournament trip with her little sister makes the season all the more enjoyable.

“It’s pretty cool. She’s my best friend in the whole world,” Herdine said. “We’ve been through a lot, and to share this with her (being) a ninth-grader and (me) in my final year is pretty cool.”

Emily watched her sister make the trip to state two years ago and said that being a part of the journey now is unmatched.

“It’s one of the best feelings ever,” Emily said.

While the Crimson are off to the state tournament, Osseo/Park Center ends the season with 11-4 record and the hope its section finals appearance will help set the foundation for future program success.

“Hopefully, it just builds and builds from here on out and sets the tone for every (coming) year,” Osseo/Park Center coach Alison Jennings said.
