Prior Lake won’t soon forget its boys’ lacrosse state tournament debut.

Beyond posting a rare shutout in a quarterfinal victory against Blake, players endured a 3 hour and 44 minute weather delay.

They passed the time eating dinner plus watching “The Office” and "SpongeBob SquarePants'' inside Minnetonka High School.

“We had a good facility so it wasn’t too bad,” senior midfielder Ben Ward said.

The Lakers’ attack wasn’t too shabby, either.

No. 2 seed Prior Lake (13-4) led 5-0 after the first quarter on a goal from Evan Bush and two each from Ward and Devin Truso.

Relentless in the second quarter, the Lakes tacked on another five goals. Ryan Larson and Preston Jelen scored their first of the game, Bush got his second and Ward and Truson completed the hat trick. Prior Lake rolled to its ninth consecutive victory.

“Getting that first win was our focus,” Ward said. “It didn’t matter who we played or if we got a shutout. We came out excited and kept going.”

Blake (10-7) coach Frank Clark, whose Bears lost to Prior Lake 9-6 in the regular season, said the lopsided rematch came down to “They played well and we didn’t. That’s not us. But their whole team is good.”

First report

A dominating first half led to a 12-0 Prior Lake victory in a weather-delayed game against Blake.

No. 2 seed Prior Lake (13-4) led 5-0 after the first quarter on a goal from Evan Bush and two each from Ben Ward and Devin Truso.

Relentless offensive play continued in the second quarter. The Lakers tacked on another five goals. Ryan Larson and Preston Jelen scored their first of the game, Bush got his second and Ward and Truson completed the hat trick.

Then the weather turned ugly. Lightning forced the game to stop with 1:58 to go in the third quarter and Prior Lake leading 11-0. The teams left for dinner during the 3 hour and 44 minute delay.

The lopsided score was a surprise given Prior Lake’s closer 9-6 victory against Blake (10-7) earlier this season.
