The rematch, the one Katie Lottsfeldt has thought about all year, is set.

Stillwater dispatched with Maple Grove 14-6 in the final state tournament quarterfinal on Wednesday, setting up the game the Ponies players have hoped for: another shot at Eden Prairie in the semifinals.

Stillwater was on the verge of defeating Eden Prairie in the 2015 semifinals, but gave up four goals in the final three and a half minutes, including a game-tying goal with one second left in regulation. Eden Prairie won in overtime, 15-14, and went on to win the state championship.

“I’ve thought about that every day since then,” said Lottsfeldt, a senior goalie who was victimized on that game-tying goal. “This is the opportunity we’ve all talked about.

Senior midfielder Carly Fedorowski scored five goals and Olivia Konigson had three for the Ponies (16-1), who took a quick 5-0 lead and never were seriously threatened. Fedorowski said it was important for the team to take of business against Maple Grove and not look too far ahead.

“We’ve had to stop ourselves from talking about Eden Prairie sometimes this year,” she said. “It’s always in the back of our minds. But now that it’s here, we’re looking for some payback.

Tippy Hill and Hailey Herdine scored two goals each for Maple Grove (15-2).

Stillwater coach Rick Reidt, like most coaches, didn’t admit to looking ahead to Eden Prairie, but said that he believes his team has reached that level.

“I think we’re right there,” Reidt said. “We just need to get that one victory.”
