Mounds View at Maple Grove

Mounds View has run roughshod over opponents the past three years, as the Mustangs have twice finished the regular season undefeated. While the team has had similar success in section play, Mounds View has not found it as easy to win in the Class 2A state tournament, where it lost in the quarterfinals in 2013 and finished fourth last year.

The Mustangs begin the year with a 15-game regular season winning streak, but it could be in jeopardy as they graduated eight seniors, including twins Rachel (26 goals) and Emily Boyer, who are playing at North Dakota State, and Mariah Northrop (19 goals, 25 assists).

Finding someone to pick up the scoring slack will be key for this young team, and a likely candidate is Emma Bangert, the team's top returning scorer and one of seven sophomores who saw varsity time last year.

Maple Grove junior midfielder Meredith Haakenson has long caught the eye of her opponents. The Michigan commit is a two-time all-state first team selection and helped lead the Crimson to the Class 2A, Section 5 title game last year, where it lost to Centennial 3-0.
