Mahtomedi at Rochester Mayo
7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 26

Mahtomedi graduated its two top-scorers from a team that returned to the state tournament after a two-year absence.

The Zephyrs, who have 12 state tournament appearances, look to contend for another this season under head coach Dave Wald, who helped guide Mahtomedi to a third-place finish in last year's Class 1A tournament.

Rochester Mayo has one of the toughest paths to state with Lakeville North residing in the same section (Class 2A, Section 1), but the Spartans boast one of the state's most talented players in senior Kayley Josephs.

Josephs tallied 21 goals and 10 assists as a junior, helping her earning all-state honors for the second consecutive season. She had 23 goals two years ago.

Rochester Mayo is coming off a 14-2-1 season and is the defending the Big 9 Conference champion.
