What was junior midfielder Hailey Feela thinking before she scored the clinching goal in a 3-1 shootout victory for the Cougars over Lakeville North?

“I prayed [and] was very nervous,” Feela said about taking the kick.

Lakeville North junior forward Natellya Henry scored the first goal of the shootout. Then Centennial junior defender Amanda Ahles and junior midfielder Meghan Wilson each scored, setting the stage for Feela.

Lakeville North (13-4-2), the No. 4 seed, struck first with senior forward Lauren Witte’s goal in the opening half. Centennial (16-0-3), the No. 5 seed, tied it 1-1 on a long shot by freshman Olivia Lovick tied the game, her first goal since Sept. 20.

“I wasn't getting many opportunities in the middle of the season, and I just couldn't find the net,” Lovick said.

Both teams then settled in defensively. Lovick put a second-half shot in the net, but the referees called offsides.

“It was hard, but we came back stronger, I felt like, after that,” Lovick said.

Lakeville North senior forward Olivia Bruce had three good scoring chances in the overtimes. Centennial senior goalkeeper Sveiven saved all three shots, finishing with nine saves for the game.

Taylor Lock, Lakeville North's senior goalkeeper, stopped several close-in shots. The Division I South Dakota State recruit had 10 saves.

“She's very intense, and she probably took it harder than anybody,” Panthers coach Jeremiah Johnson said.

Centennial (15-0-3), the No. 5 seed, gave up its first regulation goal since Sept. 27. Lakeville North had not won an overtime contest this fall coming into the tourney.

After two scoreless overtimes, Centennial won a shootout 3-1 to advance past Lakeville North.

The Cougars' shootout goals were scored by juniors Meghan Wilson, Amanda Ahles and Hayley Feela.

During regulation the Panthers (13-4-2), the No. 4 seed, took the lead on a goal by senior forward Lauren Witte with 25 minutes, 36 seconds left in the opening half.

Centennial freshman Olivia Lovick tied the game 1-1 on a long shot at the 21-minute mark in the half.

Both teams settled in defensively, and their goalkeepers made big stops when the offenses challenged. Lovick put a shot into the net in the second half, but the referees waved it off because of offsides on the Cougars.

Olivia Bruce, a Lakeville North senior forward, had three shots on goal in the extra periods, but Centennial senior goalkeeper Sveive made saves each time.

Centennial (16-0-3), the No. 5 seed, gave up its first regulation goal since Sept. 27. Lakeville North had not won an overtime contest this fall coming into the tournament.
