Wayzata entered the boys’ lacrosse state tournament Tuesday with a losing record. Defending champion Prior Lake aimed to keep it that way.
The Lakers exploded early and never relented in a 12-4 rout at Chanhassen High School.
“We’ve been here before and we know we have to treat every game like it could be our last one,” Prior Lake senior defender Brian Kallberg said. “We made sure we came prepared.”
The advance work showed as the No. 2 Lakers (14-3) went ahead 7-0 in the second quarter.
“That early lead gave us a lot more confidence, especially on defense, to play aggressive and create turnovers,” Kallberg said.
Defending boys’ lacrosse champion Prior Lake and a Wayzata team that entered the state tournament with a losing record each looked the part in their quarterfinal meeting.
No. 2 seed Prior Lake (14-3) routed the Trojans (7-10) by a 12-4 score Tuesday at Chanhassen High School.
The Lakers’ Luke Bloedow led all scorers with five goals.
