Week 6 candidates released

Finalists Sonterre, Rauchle helped secure big wins for Blaine boys, Edina girls

Bryan Kennedy

The Blake sophomore midfielder scored six goals in two games, notching hat tricks against Breck and Orono. He accounted for more than a third of the Bears’ combined 16 goals in the two games, tacking on two assists and five ground balls in a 10-3 victory over Breck on May 15 and one assist and six ground balls in a 7-6 loss to Orono on May 17. Kennedy won a combined of 11 of 15 faceoffs in the two games.

Zac Sonterre

The Blaine junior long-stick midfielder played an integral role in the Bengals’ victories over Coon Rapids, Maple Grove and White Bear Lake as they allowed a combined 13 games. Sonterre had five ground balls and forced two turnovers on May 14 against Coon Rapids, again had five ground balls and two forced turnovers against Maple Grove on May 17 and finished the week with four ground balls and two forced turnovers on May 19 against White Bear Lake. The Bengals vaulted into the top 10 of the state rankings for the first time this season.

Hannah Segar

The Apple Valley senior midfielder, one of seven Ms. Lacrosse finalists, erupted for nine goals and two assists in a May 15 victory over Bloomington Kennedy and added five goals and two asssits in a May 17 win over Eastview. One of the Eagles’ most versatile players, Segar also had a combined 13 ground balls and forced six turnovers in the two victories.

Natalie Rauchle

An Edina sophomore, Rauchle turned in a career performance on May 15 against Minnetonka, scoring seven goals in the No. 4-ranked Hornets’ wild 23-22 victory over Lake Conference rival and No. 7 Minnetonka. Facing another top-flight opponent in No. 10 Minnehaha Academy on May 17, Rauchle scored two more goals and scooped four ground balls. Rauchle hadn’t scored more than three goals in a game entering the week.

Taren Motte

A junior attackman, Motte helped No. 4-ranked Hudson complete its toughest week of the regular season with two victories by scoring three goals on May 16 against No. 8 Tartan and scoring four goals on May 18 against No. 5 Shakopee. Motte had a combined seven ground balls in the two games. He has scored at least one goal in all but one of Hudson’s 10 games and has 24 this season to rank ninth in the MBSLA.
