Week 7 candidates released

Finalists including Minnetonka, Bloomington Jefferson girls playoffs standouts

Max Harrington

The Blake senior midfielder scored a combined 12 goals in two playoff victories as Blake earned a surprise appearance in the Section 5 semifinals. Harrington opened the week in jaw-dropping fashion, scored seven of the Bears’ goals in their 10-3 first-round victory over Breck in a game that started on May 23, was suspended because of lightning and completed on May 24. Harrington racked up five more goals on May 25 as No. 6-seeded Blake avenged a regular-season loss to Holy Angels by upending the No. 3-seeded Stars 14-9. Harrington is the Bears’ scoring leader with 44 points (29 goals, 15 assists) in 14 games.

Derek Todd

Edina’s junior attackman was a one-man demolition crew in two Section 5 playoff victories, scoring 15 goals and adding an assist as the No. 5-seeded Hornets reached the section semifinals. Todd scored eight goals in a 17-4 first-round victory over Bloomington Kennedy on May 23 and had seven goals and an assist in a 14-8 upset win over No. 4 seed Hopkins on May 25. Todd has 47 points (28 goals, 19 assists) in 15 games.

Holly Korn

The Minnetonka sophomore midfielder erupted for a whopping nine goals in a wild 26-16 shootout victory over Wayzata on May 22 in the first round of the Section 6 playoffs. Korn had three goals and two assists while seeing limited action as the No. 3-seeded Skippers eased past No. 6 seed Buffalo 16-6 on May 24. Korn has 41 goals this season. 

Elizabeth Wittenborg

Bloomington Jefferson’s senior attacker was a dominant force in two playoff victories, scoring eight goals and adding two assists in a 20-14 win over Eagan on May 21 and scoring four goals and adding five assists in a 14-13 win over Farmington on May 23. Wittenborg piled up statistics beyond goals and assists, totaling 12 ground balls and three draw controls as the defending Section 3 champion Jaguars reached the semifinals of the section playoffs.

Brett Boeing

A Shattuck-St. Mary’s junior midfielder, Boeing had his best game of season at the most opportune of times, scoring three goals in a 10-6 victory over previously unbeaten and No. 1-ranked Delano on May 22. The victory kept the Sabres unbeaten and vaulted them to No. 1 in the Minnesota Boys Scholastic Lacrosse Association state rankings. Boeing had scored five goals in six games before the matchup with the Rage.
