Heppner, Easton win top awards

Jake Heppner of Eastview was named Mr. Lacrosse and Christine Easton of Eden Prairie was named Ms. Lacrosse on Sunday, June 3, by the Minnesota Minute Men at the Crowne Plaza Riverfront Hotel in St. Paul.
 
The other major award winners Sunday were Mr. and Ms. Goaltender, which went to Thomas Gilligan of Benilde-St. Margaret’s and Bailey Dunning of Blake.
 
Heppner, an attackman who has committed to play at Minnesota-Duluth, has 58 points (34 goals, 24 assists) and 62 ground balls in 15 games for the No. 2-ranked Lightning, winners of the Section 3 playoffs.

Easton, a midfielder who has committed to play at Ohio State, has 72 goals and 17 assists in 16 games for the unbeaten and No. 1-ranked Eagles.
 
The awards are given to the two outstanding senior high school lacrosse players and two outstanding senior goaltenders in Minnesota and are selected by a panel of Minnesota lacrosse community members. 
 
The other finalists for Mr. Lacrosse were Matt Blaeser of Champlin Park, Ryan Brown of Mahtomedi, Simon Gondeck of Benilde-St. Margaret's, Alex Guyette of Holy Angels, Teddy O’Reilly of Minnetonka and Matt Weller of Rosemount.
 
The other finalists for Ms. Lacrosse were Meghan Bauer of Blake, Simone Haugen of Eagan, Chloe Kinsel of Cretin-Derham Hall, Hannah Segar of Apple Valley, Taylor Smith of Visitation and Kara Wendell of Champlin Park.
 
Calder Sutton of Blake and Allie Morse of Park (Cottage Grove) were the other Mr. and Ms. Goalie finalists.
 
Also on Sunday, Homegrown Lacrosse Community Leadership awards were presented Prior Lake's Claire Clark and Rochester Century's Preston Sycks.
