State tournament teams provide latest crop of Player of the Week finalists

Jack Burn

A Totino-Grace sophomore goaltender, Burn was clutch to the core in making 11 saves, most all of them classified as spectacular, in the unranked Eagles’ 5-4 upset victory over No. 9-ranked Blaine in the Section 4 championship game on May 31.  That command performance came on the heels of Burn’s seven-save performance in a 9-8 section semifinal upset over top-seeded and No. 10-ranked White Bear Lake on May 29.

Patrick McFadden

A senior midfielder, Eden Prairie's McFadden took the description “faceoff specialist” to unheard of heights when he won an amazing 21 of 21 faceoffs in the Eagles’ 11-6 comeback victory over No. 1-ranked Minnetonka on May 31 in the Section 6 championship game. McFadden's prowess on draws, he outdueled Eagan standout Scott Pescheret during the rgular season, earned him third-team All State honors.

Emma Claire Fontenot

A junior midfielder with a full array of skills, Eden Prairie's Fontenot scored four goals and added three assists and three ground balls in Eden Prairie’s Section 6 semifinal victory over Holy Family Catholic on May 29. Fontentot’s all-around excellence was on display again in the section championship on May 31, as she scored four goals and set up four more in the unbeaten and No. 1-ranked Eagles 15-7 triumph over rival Minnetonka.

Hannah Segar

An Apple Valley senior midfielder, Segar earned a player of the nomination for the second time in three weeks with a monster pair of playoff performances that helped propel the Eagles to the state tournament for the first time. Segar scored seven goals and scooped five ground balls in Apple Valley’s 9-8 victory over Bloomington Jefferson in the Section 3 semifinals on May 29. Segar was at it again two days later, score five goals, adding an assist, scooping four ground balls, causing three turnovers and notching two draw controls in the unranked Eagles’ stunning 9-7 section championship victory over No. 4-ranked Lakeville North.

Chase Willette

A senior attackman, Delano's Willete erupted for seven goals and added two assists as the No. 2-ranked Rage eased past St. Paul 15-6 in a first-round Minnesota Boys Scholastic Lacrosse Association playoff game on June 1. The scoring outburst was the biggest of the year for Willette, who has scored at least one goal in all 13 Delano games -- 12 of them victories -- and has 40 in all.
