Defending MBSLA state champion dominates second half as it rolls into semifinals

Sophomore Oliver Winsor and senior Cody Lamm each scored four goals, and defending Minnesota Boys Scholastic Lacrosse Association champion and No. 3-ranked MontiQuois scored nine unanswered goals in the second half as it eased past No. 4 Hudson 16-7 on Monday, June 2, in a state quarterfinal matchup at Irondale High School in New Brighton.

MontiQuois advances to play Delano in the MBSLA semifinals at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.

Winsor scored three of his goals in the first half, including one into an empty net after he intercepted an errant cross-field clearing pass that had been intended for Hudson goaltender Jordan Madden.

Freshman Brady Artwol scored two of his three goals in the first half to help MontiQuois (12-3) grab a 6-3 lead heading into the third quarter.

MontiQuois senior goaltender Aaron Job was rock solid in the first half, making seven saves on 10 shots. Several of Hudson’s shots were from just outside the crease.

MontiQuois was dominant on draws thanks to the work of Alex Folkerds, who won 20 of 25 faceoffs.

The Raiders (11-2) closed to within 6-5 early in the third quarter, but Monticello-based MontiQuois responded by scoring five unanswered goals to take an 11-5 lead into the fourth quarter. Lamm scored twice and Winsor had a goal and an assist during the scoring flurry.

MontiQuois built its lead to 15-5 with 5:25 remaining before Hudson ended its scoring drought.

Junior Taren Motte and senior Anthony Queener each scored twice for the Raiders.
