Benilde-St. Margaret’s came this close to registering the biggest upset in state girls’ lacrosse history last year when it went toe-to-toe with Blake for all four quarters of the Section 6 championship game.
While Blake eventually squeaked out a 9-8 win on its way to a fourth-straight state title, the Red Knights seem to have launched themselves into the stratosphere of state programs.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s, despite losing 64-goal scorer Bailey Forcier to graduation, are off to a 4-0 start that includes Thursday’s win over perennial top-10 program Edina.
Robbinsdale Armstrong is a much like Benilde-St. Margaret’s, a program on the rise hoping to challenge the longtime state dominance of Blake and Eden Prairie.
The Falcons’ suffered just two losses last season, both to Blake, and have lost once in four starts this season, also against Blake.
