May 23: No. 2-ranked Champlin Park might have chance to complete unbeaten regular season against Wayzata

Champlin Park doesn’t get too many opportunities to venture outside the 10-team Northwest Suburban Conference. The bulk of the Rebels’ 13-game schedule is committed to playing league foes, most of which have offered little resistance in what so far has been a perfect season.

The quality of competition has been considerable, however, when No. 2-ranked Champlin Park does escape the Northwest Suburban. The Rebels have defeated top-15 squads Eastview and Bloomington Jefferson, and on Friday they square off against No. 6 Wayzata to close the season.

The Rebels (9-0) have been outstanding defensively, allowing no more than eight goals in any of their games and limiting teams to three or fewer goals four times.

This game could come down to a goal or two – as in the combined total for the two teams. Wayzata (7-3) is almost as stingy as Champlin Park. The Trojans have given up double digits in goals just once, and have held teams to six or fewer goals eight times.
