Either way, this is the game to end all regular season games in Minnesota girls’ lacrosse. These teams have combined to win every championship since the Minnesota State High School League began sponsoring the state tournament in 2007.

Go even further back, to the days of the old Northcentral Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association, and Blake and Eden Prairie combined to win six of the eight titles from 1999-2006.

This season has been much like all those previous seasons, with both Blake and Eden Prairie entering the week undefeated against Minnesota competition. No. 1-ranked Blake, the four-time defending state champion, is 9-2 with the two losses coming against Illinois powers Loyola Academy and New Trier. No. 2 Eden Prairie’s lone loss (the Eagles are 10-1) came against Loyola.

It should be noted that, as big as Friday's game is, it doesn’t mean much when it comes to determining a state champion. Eden Prairie has won the last two regular season meetings but lost to Blake in the 2012 title game and, last year, was ousted in the semifinals by Lakeville North. Last season marked the first time in the seven years of the MSHSL state tournament the Bears and Eagles didn’t meet for the championship.
