MAX CHLAN

Apple Valley senior

Chlan, a rising senior, backstopped the Eagles to a 4-0 start to the 2014 season and helped Apple Valley finish the season ranked No. 14 in the state. Chlan, who is spending his summer as part of the Minnesota Elite lacrosse program, had a 8.74 goals-against average and .563 save percentage.

Here’s a closer look at Chlan:

What got you into lacrosse? Honestly, I was tired of playing baseball. My dad was tired of watching baseball. So, one day I decided to pick up lacrosse, and away I went. That was in third grade.

Any pregame rituals? I have music I listen to. I do the whole eye-black thing. But before games, I like to take off all my pads and sit on the bench — just sit there, while everybody else is warming up. … I just try to visualize and get my mind into the game before it starts.

What type of music gets you in that mind-set? I listen to a lot of beats, a lot of rap. I like Migos.

Pregame meal? Ever since I was an eighth-grader, I’ve eaten Jimmy John’s before every game — a No. 9, straight up, every single game.

When not standing in front of a lacrosse net … I play in a band; I play bass.

In 10 years, you will be … Hopefully, doing some kind of business-esque work in a foreign country. I’ve taken German the last four years at Apple Valley, and I’d love to eventually move to a German-speaking country — Switzerland, Germany, Austria — and do some business-related activities.

What’s the farthest destination you’ve traveled to already? I’ve been to Puerto Rico. So, I’ve been to a territory [of the U.S.].
