The Burnsville boys lacrosse team got back to its tough defensive ways April 29.

Coming off its first loss of the season, the Blaze got three goals apiece from juniors Jace Childs and Neal Pester in a 13-4 home win over Lakeville South.

Burnsville went into the game on the heels of a 12-11 double-overtime loss to Apple Valley April 27, which knocked the team from the ranks of the unbeaten.

The Blaze (6-1 overall) went into the Apple Valley game having outscored its opponents by a 52-10 margin. Burnsville has also been playing without one of its top defenders in senior captain Griff Bartzen, who has been sidelined with an ankle sprain.

"We played well as a team (against Lakeville South) with our midfield starting a lot of fastbreak situations," said Blaze coach Jesse Schelitzche. "Our attack is finishing them off with goals. Our defense also continues to play well, even without Bartzen."

Juniors Brian Atkinson and Eddie Wittchow each scored two goals versus Lakeville South, while senior Giovanni Krusmark and junior Mike Dockry each had one goal and junior Bodhi Engum had one.

Childs finished with four assists, while Dockry had two. Getting one assist were Pester, senior Kyle Eckert and sophomore Jake Maxson.

Senior Cameron Flakne made the start in goal for the Blaze and stopped 14 shots. Flakne had 12 saves in the loss to Apple Valley.

Engum scored five goals to the lead Burnsville , while Childs had three and Wittchow had two. Maxson had one goal and an assist. Pester finished with two assists, while Dockry, Atkinson and senior Alec Wroblewski each had one.

The Blaze returns to the field Tuesday, May 4 when it plays host to Bloomington Kennedy at 7:30 p.m.
