Senior attacker Abby Gaedtke would like nothing better than to end a string of sub-.500 seasons in her final year playing lacrosse for the Eagan Wildcats.

Abby Gaedtke, Eagan lacrosse

The Eagan girls’ lacrosse squad hasn’t had a winning season since 2011, when the program was paired with Rosemount. Senior attacker Abby Gaedtke would like nothing better than to end that drought in her final year playing for the Wildcats.

The past three seasons, Eagan has only won as many games (9) as that 2011 season. It’s coming off a 4-10 season in 2014.

Here is a closer look at Gaedtke, who also played basketball for the Wildcats this past winter:

Q What is the best movie you have seen in the last year?

A “Unbroken.”

Q Three songs you never skip on your iPod are …

A … “Lemonade” by Gucci Mane; “Sunday Candy” by Chance The Rapper), and anything on the “Mulan” soundtrack.

Q Three words or phrases your friends or teammates would use to describe you are …

A … aggressive, inclusive and upbeat.

Q At your first varsity practice, you …

A … felt so much excitement it was crazy.

Q What is your favorite meal before a game?

A An orange, a Gatorade and whatever my teammate, Syd Funk, and I go to grab, typically Subway.

Q What are your goals for the upcoming season?

A To be the best team we have been in a long time. We have a lot of underclassmen who will do very well for our team this year. I’m excited to see everyone’s improvement.

Q What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete?

A When our lacrosse team scored three goals in 38 seconds to get us back in a game.

Q Who is your school’s biggest rival, and why?

A Rosemount is our lacrosse team’s biggest rival. We used to be a combined team and now we are split. We play for a traveling trophy every year. Naturally, it’s stayed in Eagan for a few years.

Q If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be?

A Games should be broadcast and talked about more throughout the area.

Q How do you balance school and sports during the year?

A I balance school and sports during the year by just simply staying organized and knowing when things are due and test dates much in advance.

Q Name one sport that you wish you could play, and why?

A Volleyball, not only because they are so successful [Eagan won the Class 3A state championship in 2013 before finishing as the runner-up this past season] but because I used to play before quitting in high school. I wish I played because it’s such a fun sport.

Q Who is your favorite college or pro sports team, and why?

A My favorite college lacrosse team to watch is the University of North Carolina. They are just phenomenal athletes. I love to watch how successful they are and how well they play together.

Q In 10 years, you hope you are …

A... a college lacrosse coach and special education teacher, possibly somewhere on the East Coast.

Q What is the best sports advice you have ever received?

A The best sports advice I have ever received came from my friend, Joe Kovach. He had told me that on the field or court I have only three seconds to be mad at myself for screwing up. After that, I need to get over it and go play.
