Suhsen is a senior defenseman for the Lightning boys’ lacrosse team. He hopes to help them return to the state tournament after a one-year absence. Eastview won the state title in 2012 and was the runner-up in 2013. Here is a closer look at Suhsen:

Q: Best movie you’ve seen in the last year is ...

A: … “Unbroken.”

Q: Three words or phrases friends or teammates would use to describe you are …

A: … hardworking, fun and competitive.

Q: At your first varsity practice, you felt …

A: ... very nervous. It was my freshman year and I was the youngest kid. Playing with all the big kids was new and frightening.

Q: What did you work on most in the offseason?

A: Passing, catching, a lot of ground balls and cardio.

Q: What is your favorite thing to eat before a game?

A: Turkey and cheese, apple sauce, rice chips and guacamole.

Q: I know I have an edge on an opponent when …

A: ... the other team starts chirping or getting chippy. Then I know I’m in their head.

Q: What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete?

A: Going to the state championship game my sophomore year. [The Lightning beat Eden Prairie 10-4 in the finals.]

Q: If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be?

A: Make lifting a big thing. I know some kids once they get to high school aren’t that big, so getting them into the weight room would be really beneficial.

Q: How do you balance school and sports during the year?

A: I try to stay really relaxed, so I don’t get stressed out. I wait until after lacrosse to finish all my homework, and usually can get it all done.
