quick q&a

SAM NOLAN

CHAMPLIN PARK, JR., LACROSSE

Nolan, a junior midfielder, helped lead the Rebels to the girls’ lacrosse state tournament last season, where they lost in the first round. As of May 1, the Rebels had started their season 4-0.

Q: What was the state experience like last season?

A: It was definitely challenging … going into the state tournament and having teams that are really high up in the skill level. It was a really hard transition, but I think it really helped our team [come] together. … It wasn’t something that we could only have a couple people playing at their best.

Q: Goals for this season?

A: Going into this year we want to get better and our goal is to win the first round or win more than one round. … Also, since last year we didn’t have an undefeated season, that was one of our goals for this year.

Q: How’s the season started?

A: In past years, it’s taken us the first games to get in our groove … but this year, it was surprising. Right off the bat, [we] just started the games ready to go and ready to play. This year, it’s not as much that we need to fix big work strategies, it’s the smaller stuff like ground balls, and stuff that’s easy to fix within a couple practices.

Q: You’re just a junior, but have you thought about college plans?

A: I haven’t made a commitment yet, but I know for sure that I want to play lacrosse going into college.
