Fall sports season is on the horizon, and athletes are eager to display the progress they’ve made in the offseason.
All summer, Breck has been anticipating its season debut against Orono, a rematch of last year's Class 1A state championship won by the Spartans 2-1 in dramatic fashion — scoring the game-winner with a header off a corner kick in overtime.
It wasn't Orono's only victory over Breck last season, as the Spartans corralled the Mustangs 2-1 in overtime in the regular-season finale.
Despite graduating 11 regulars, Orono earned the top spot in the Class 2A coaches' preseason poll.
Breck isn't far behind, ranking second in Class 2A. The Mustangs look to upset their rival with an experienced lineup (they return all but one player from the state runner-up team), including vital leaders at each position.
Given its familiarity with Orono, Breck is surely aiming to avenge last year’s sweep and score an impressive early season victory, making this heavyweight matchup our Top Game of the Week.
