The season begins on April 13 when Grand Rapids/Greenway makes its MSHSL debut against Hastings.

The Minnesota State High School League girls’ lacrosse season kicks into gear on April 13. Eight games are scheduled that day, but none may carry as much significance as Grand Rapids/Greenway’s debut at Hastings. Grand Rapids Area Lacrosse Association board member Mark Surface will be at the helm of the program, while Greenway graduate and former player Madison Amundson will serve as assistant coach.

Things get busy the following week with 10 or more games scheduled every day but Sunday.

Champlin Park may have April 26 rematch with rival Blaine circled on its calendar. The Rebels completed a 14-0 regular season last spring but were upset 15-9 in the Section 7 semifinals by a Bengals team that went on to earn their first state tournament berth.

Sam Nolan, the state's top returning scorer with 73 goals and 34 assists during the regular season, leads a Champlin Park squad that will seek revenge in this Northwest Suburban Conference rematch.

Prior Lake, fresh off its second straight state tournament berth, hosts Section 6 and South Suburban Conference rival Apple Valley on April 27. The defending league champion Lakers thumped the Eagles 13-5 in the section championship last June -- ending Apple Valley's season for the second consecutive year and extending a winning streak over the Eagles to four games.

Last season, an up-and-coming Breck program's only regular season losses were to perennial championship contender Blake and Stillwater, a program that's made six consecutive state tournament appearances. The Mustangs' youthful lineup returns seven of their eight top scorers from last year, four of whom are sophomores. Tenth-graders Eloise Cherian (41 goals, 9 assists) and Macie Gruver (19 goals, 22 assists) led the Mustangs a season ago who'll look to challenge Stillwater on May 22.

A majority of the team close the regular season on on May 25, and no other contest that day can match the intensity of Blake versus Eden Prairie in their annual playoff primer. Last year, the Eagles won 16-14, a victory that foreshadowed their repeat as state champions following an 11-9 win against the Bears in the state title game on June 18. As proof just how dominant these rivals have been, all but one state title game since 2007 have featured Blake against Eden Prairie.

In 2015, the Eagles beat Lakeville South 14-13 in double overtime to claim their first state championship since 2009. Before Eden Prairie's repeat, Blake had won five consecutive titles and has six total.
