Nigh, a senior midfielder, is starting his fourth season as a varsity player and second season as a team captain. The Tornadoes reached the state tournament for the first time last season before falling in the quarterfinals.

Q: What is your role on the lacrosse team?

A: I’ve been a captain for my junior and senior season. I’m pretty close to having the school record, 20 goals or so, hopefully I get that this year. I play defense, get ground balls.

Q: You also play football. How does that help with lacrosse?

A: Being more physical helps me. Just to be ready to have contact in a game. You have to be able to understand what’s happening, the defense around you.

Q: What do you like about playing football?

A: So much is happening. Sometimes you’ll just get a hit like “wow.’’ I like the physicality and the violence, I guess.

Q: How do you feel about your lacrosse team’s chances this year?

A: We’ll be very good. We only lost three starters and the rest are seniors coming back. We have our goalie that is pretty good. All around we’re set. We have a lot of leadership on the team and a lot of skill.

Q: Any college plans yet?

A: I’m playing lacrosse at University of Detroit-Mercy.

Q: What do you do in your free time?

A: Practice lacrosse a lot and hang out with my friends.
