Six goals.

That’s all Farmington graduated from last year’s team that advanced to its third consecutive Section 1 title game and averaged nearly 11.5 goals per game.

Needless to say, the Tigers return plenty of firepower this spring and it showed in Farmington’s 14-10 win over Eastview Thursday evening at Eastview High School.

Butler commit, Ashley Steffes, carried the Tigers, who are ranked sixth in the coaches’ poll, early, scoring five first-half goals, including Farmington’s final two goals of the frame.

After Mary Keating tied the game 3-3 for the Lightning (3-5, 2-4), Steffes won the ensuing draw to herself, scurried down the field and sliced her way to the net with a goal just 10 seconds after play was continued.

“She’s a baller,” Tigers coach Stephanie Lavictoire said. “She’s always made big plays like that and will continue to do so.”

Lavictoire may only be in her third year at the helm of Farmington (9-1, 5-1), but she’s known the majority of this group for seven years as their youth coach.

“Since I was a 19-year-old kid I’ve known these kids, so we’ve watched each other grow up. So it’s been fun” she said.

Lavictoire has shared her team’s hardships, falling in the Section 1 title game to Lakeville South the past two years, a trend they look to derail as the Tigers are viewed as the favorite entering their regular season finale against the Cougars on May 23.

"The chemistry on this team is insane," Steffes said. "We always know where each other are, and if we believe, and have a strong head, I think we can do it."

Ranked sixth in the coaches’ poll, the Tigers (9-1, 5-1) tallied 10 goals in the first frame to take a three-goal lead entering the intermission.

Kamryn Corarro followed Steffes with four goals, while Justine Beal came on strong late for Farmington, scoring twice in the final frame.

Allie Tuccitto led the Lightning (3-5, 2-4) with two goals and three assists. Mary Keating tallied two goals and two assists for the Eastview. 

Lexie Grove made two saves in the win for the Tigers. Brielle Walter stopped 7 of 21 shots in the Lightning’s net.
