If a lacrosse version of Ann Brashares’ beloved book series “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” was ever created, it would undoubtedly star the girls of Cretin-Derham Hall.

In fact, sisterhood is a virtue that follows the Raiders, who are ranked No. 9 in the state coaches' poll, everywhere in the form of several promises, printed on paper and clipped to the team’s ball bucket.

“We talk about anything and everything,” junior forward Maya Quigley said of the team’s bond. “We’re so open with each other, there are no secrets.”

Know what else isn’t a secret? The fact that Cretin-Derham Hall is good.

Good enough to score six unanswered goals en route to an impressive 12-7 come-from-behind win over Suburban East Conference rival Roseville (7-2, 4-2) on Tuesday night after entering halftime down 5-4.

Two of the five Roseville goals in the opening frame came from Ellie Peine, who finished the game with three scores to lead the Black and Silver.

“We tend to start a little slow, and then we pick it up,” Quigley said.

“We were talking (about) how we don’t really have time for that,” Quigley continued, shedding some light on what the Raiders (7-2, 5-1) discussed during the mid-game break.

Quigley finished the game with three goals, as did fellow junior Megan Reis, giving the Raiders their sixth consecutive win, a streak that dates back to May 2.

Part of the team’s resurgence for the second 25-minute stretch was the unwavering intensity of senior goalie Elle Crawford, a Regis College (CO) commit who admittedly never relaxes on the field.

“I think I’m always…energetic,” Crawford said, grinning. “Even in the games where there aren’t a lot of shots happening, I try to make it out on the field and try to be involved.”

Involved is the key word, as the Raiders’ pregame warmup does not allow players to be anything but.

“We try as quickly as possible to get three touches and all of the skills (incorporated), so that we can get into actual play preparation,” first-year coach Joe Moss said.

Moss took the helm for departed coach Andrew Lecker, and said he was aware of the prime situation he was entering.

“This program was set up really, really well, and these girls, they manage themselves very well,” Moss said.

None of the four leading scorers for the Raiders this season are seniors, and six players have recorded 12 or more points thus far.

Crawford, a four-year varsity veteran and one of just five seniors in the lineup, said that the Raiders’ premium on sisterhood has allowed them to gel more cohesively.

“We don’t (need) everyone to be best friends,” Crawford said matter-of-factly. “But we want everyone to be sisters, where we always have each other’s backs.”
