The boys’ lacrosse state tournament bracket has been released, and it contains several of Minnesota's top teams.

Five of the eight squads qualifying for state were the No. 1 seed in their respective sections, while the remaining three teams had an interesting journeys to state, including perennial power Lakeville North.

The Panthers received the No. 8 seed for the state tournament, a significant drop from the No. 2 seed they carried during Section 1 play. Lakeville North upset rival Lakeville South 15-14 in the section championship game, denying the top-seeded Cougars a shot at state.

Prior Lake also pulled an upset in the Section 6 title game, as the second-seeded Lakers sank Eastview, the No. 1-ranked team in the state coaches' poll and top seed in the section bracket.

Eastview entered section play undefeated, and its first defeat of the year -- a 6-5 loss to the Lakers -- ended its season. The victory locked up the fifth seed at state for Prior Lake, the defending state champions from last year.

Wayzata also handed an undefeated team its first loss of the season to make it to state, as the Trojans beat Maple Grove 11-5 in the Section 8 championship game.

The Trojans are the seventh seed at state and were the only No. 3 seed from a section bracket to make the field. They didn’t struggle much to get there, winning their three section games by a combined score of 38-13.

The rest of the field were all the favorites in their section.

Eagan earned the No. 1 seed at state, helped by a regular-season record containing one loss, a 12-7 defeat to Eastview on May 18. The Wildcats cruised through Section 3, scoring at least 19 goals in all three of their games. Brandon Wuertz and Isaac Pelfer each scored five goals in Eagan’s 19-8 victory over Park of Cottage Grove in the championship game, and the Wildcats enter state in search of the school’s first title in boys’ lacrosse.

Eden Prairie also didn’t struggle to win the Section 2 crown. The Eagles won their three games by a combined score of 40-11 and roll into their seventh straight state appearance as the No. 2 seed. They won the whole thing in 2013 and 2014.

Mahtomedi received the No. 4 seed and Anoka is No. 6.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s is the three seed at state, and three has been a good number to the Red Knights in the past. They have been to the state tournament three times (2007, 2010 and 2011), winning winning the title in each of those trips. Will that trend continue this year? We'll find out when the tournament begins Tuesday.
