St. Thomas, St. Johns and NDSU could strengthen case for national tournament bids

Nationally ranked opponents will converge on the Twin Cities Minneapolis to take on our state's top college teams April 8-10.

By Sunday night, there should be a strong indication of which Minnesota teams will be in the driver’s seat for at-large bids for the national tournament.

Highlighting the weekend is No. 6-ranked Davenport squaring off against the Upper Midwest Lacrosse League's big three: St. Thomas, St. John's and North Dakota State.

The weekend is critical for all three teams as a strong showing will move them up the polls rapidly.
Out-of-state teams Missouri Baptist, Missouri State and North Colorado are all ranked in the top 20 and need solid outcomes to push up the polls and strengthen their resumes for the national tournament's selection committee.

With a strong showing, Davenport could challenge for a one or two seed in the national tournament.

Kevin Reed' projections:

  • St. Thomas wins all three of their weekends contests
  • St. John’s tough defense and home field advantage allows them to upset Davenport and sweep all four of their games.
  • North Dakota wins its first two and falls in a tough game to Davenport
