No. 2 Eden Prairie slips past Minnetonka; matchup with No. 1 Blake next

Christine Easton, a junior who has committed to play at Ohio State, scored five goals and teammate Taylor Uhl, a senior who is Minnesota’s reigning Ms. Soccer, added three to lead the No. 2-ranked Eden Prairie girls past No. 4 Minnetonka 10-8 on Tuesday, May 17, at Minnetonka High School.

The Eagles (10-0) led 4-2 at halftime and by as much as 9-4 in the second before the Skippers (9-3) rallied by scoring four of the final five goals.

Sophomore Abbey Brodeur and senior Hilary Duda each scored twice for Minnetonka.

Eden Prairie’s victory coupled with No. 1 Blake’s 16-8 triumph over Minnehaha Academy on Tuesday sets up Thursday’s much-anticipated showdown between the Eagles and Bears (10-0).

The game will be played at 6 p.m. at the Blake School campus in Hopkins.

Blake beat Eden Prairie 11-10 in last year’s state title game after losing to the Eagles in the regular season.

“We don’t look past anyone,” Eden Prairie co-head coach Beth Patterson said about the Eagles keeping their focus on the Lake Conference rival Skippers. “We just want to get better with every game.”

Easton, who raised her season goal total to 50, said Eden Prairie won’t hold anything back against the Bears, even though a potential rematch in the state tournament looms.

“It’s a big game,” Easton said about Thursday’s matchup, the regular season finale for both teams. “It’s probably our biggest of the season. I think it’s kind of where we show everything we’ve been working on the entire season.

“We play every game to win, so we won’t hide anything.”
