Boys' lacrosse playoff brackets revealed

By Luke Hanlon, SportsEngine 05/31/2017, 3:45pm CDT

Check out each bracket from all eight sections.

Section 1

Section 1 sees rivals Lakeville South (No. 1) and Lakeville North (No. 2) receive the top two seeds. Neither of the Lakeville teams finished the season in the top 10. North ended the season ranked No. 13, while South didn’t receive any votes.  Both teams finished the season under .500, as South had an overall record of 5-8-0, and North had a 6-7-0 record. In their only meeting of the season, the Cougars beat the Panthers 9-8 at Lakeville North.

Section 2

Section 2 might be the toughest section, as it boasts three of the top 14 teams in the state. The top three seeds belong to Eden Prairie (10-1-0), Chanhassen (9-2-0) and Minnetonka (7-6-0). At the end of the season, Eden Prairie were ranked No. 3, Chanhassen No. 5 and Minnetonka No. 14 in the state power rankings.

Section 3

There are two top 10 teams in section 3, as Eagan (No. 2) and Rosemount (No. 7) got the top two seed sin the section. Eagan (12-1-0) defeated Rosemount (10-3-0) 15-4 when they played on May 2. Brandon Wuertz scored four goals for the Wildcats in that game. He ended the season with 50 goals, second-most in the state.

Section 4

The points leader in Minnesota, Sam Lindahl, who finished the season with 61 goals and 30 assists, led Tartan to the two seed in section 4. The Titans (11-2-0) finished the season ranked No. 10 in the state. If they want to win the section, they’ll have to go through the one-seed Mahtomedi (12-1-0) who finished the season ranked No. 4.

Section 5

Benidle St. Margaret’s (11-2-0) secured the top seed in section 5. The Scarlett Knights finished second in the Metro West Conference, which was won by Chanhassen. The Scarlett Knights finished the season on a four-game win-streak. They’re hoping that will turn into a five-game win-streak on Wednesday against Hopkins.

Section 6

If there is an argument over what section is the toughest, it has to be between section 2 and 6. For starters, section 6 has Eastview (13-0-0), the best team in the state and the South Suburban Conference champions. They also have Prior Lake (10-3-0), who finished fourth in the South Suburban Conference and at No. 8 in the final state rankings. To round things out, section 6 has Bloomington Kennedy (9-4-0) who was ranked No. 15 in the latest rankings.

Section 7

Anoka (10-1-0), ranked No. 12 in the state, got the one-seed in section 7. The Tornados only loss on the season came against No. 9 Maple Grove, an 11-9 loss on May 3. Their most recent game was an 8-5 win against Blaine, who got the two-seed in section 7.

Section 8

The only undefeated team in the state that is not Eastview is Maple Grove (13-0-0). The Crimson’s flawless record earned them the top seed in section 8. To get through the section, they’ll have to beat Ryley Zopfi and St. Michael-Albertville. Zopfi leads the state with 34 assists, and is second in points with 82. Also in their way is the tree-seed, Wayzata (8-4-0), who finished the season ranked No. 11 in the state. The Trojans have experience with tough teams, as they’ve beaten Minnetonka (twice) and Chanhassen this season.
