Linus Toward, Jake Marschall and Zach Docteur each had a goal in the opening quarter, which was enough to help the Sabers secure a 6-2 victory over the Jaguars in the season opener for both teams.

Shakopee, ranked No. 5 in the Class 1A coaches' preseason poll, added a goal from Gavin McNee, Charlie Lindahl and Zane Orchard across the final three quarters. 

Ninth-ranked Bloomington Jefferson tallied two goals at the start the second quarter to cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Sabers shut out the Jaguars for the remainder of the game to head home with the win.
