Sophomore midfielder Abby Jones scored four goals and Bella Erne added three to lead Blaine to a 10-9 win over Centennial in the Section 7 championship at Osseo High School on Wednesday night.

"Hard work, effort, (and) they never quit,” Bengals coach Dennis Osbeck said of his team.

"(It) was an amazing win at (No. 1 seed) Champlin Park (in the semifinals) for sure, and then to pull this one out is awesome,” Osbeck said.

Jones’ performance Wednesday gave her 19 goals for the playoffs and 54 for the season.

“She’s so quick behind the net,” Osbeck said. “She just knows when to go to the net.”

The fourth-seeded Bengals (10-6) also got goals from Gina Rosvold, Gabby Rosenthal and Ashley Osbeck in the win.

Centennial coach Gary Nelson said that his sixth-seeded Cougars rose their level of play in the postseason.

“They stepped it up and started playing the way they could,” Nelson said, adding that his team entered the playoffs with realistic expectations.

“Being a six seed, we didn’t expect to go to state anyway,” Nelson said.

Hailee Berg led Centennial (9-8) with three goals while Claire Carlson and Krista Kissell each scored two. Marina Kanner and Ellie Jensen posted one apiece in the loss.
