Six Big Ten Conference schools already have varsity lacrosse: Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, Rutgers, Maryland, Northwestern (women's only) and sports-specific member Johns Hopkins (men's only), and there is ambition and desire to see the Gophers flourish in the NCAA after showing they can compete at the the club level.
