Benilde-St. Margaret’s defeated Wayzata 6-5 in the boys’ lacrosse state tournament semifinals on Thursday at Minnetonka High School.
The No. 3 seed Red Knights advance to the championship game, scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at Chanhassen High School.
Wayzata (12-5), which upset No. 2 seed Eden Prairie in the quarterfinals, went ahead 1-0 against Benilde-St. Margaret’s (16-2). Then the Red Knights took control and led 6-1 at halftime.
Neither team scored in the third quarter.
Wayzata roared back for three goals in a span of 2:05 in the fourth quarter.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s returns to the title game for the first time since winning the 2011 championship.
