Blake vs. Prior Lake

7 p.m., Friday, April 20

An early season matchup between last year's second- and third-place finishers at the state tournament should provide plenty of entertainment and be a measuring stick for two of the state's elite teams.

Blake returns three of its top offensive players from last season, when the Bears were the state runners-up. Shannon Ellis (30 goals) and Sophie Skallerud (28 goals) were two of the top three scorers, while Emma Burke had a team-high 24 assists, and the three seniors are looking to get the momentum toward the state tournament rolling early in the season.

Prior Lake graduated Sarah Pierson and her team-leading 40 goals, but the Lakers bring back Lexi Peer (26 goals) and freshman Payton Bloedow (21 goals, 11 assists). With only four seniors on team, Prior Lake may lack experience, but there is also plenty of space for development. If the Lakers can build on last season's third-place finish, they might be able to provide a significant challenge for the state title.
