Farmington vs. Hill-Murray

1 p.m., Saturday, Apr. 28

Farmington made its first appearance at the state tournament last season, but if the Tigers are going to make back-to-back trips, they are going to have to prove themselves against top competition.

Josie Laube had 20 goals as one of Farmington third-leading scorer last season. The other two have graduated, meaning Laube will shoulder the scoring load. However, the Tigers have experienced roster of attackers, meaning the offense has a chance to quickly get humming again. The return of freshman Lexie Grove in goal is sure to provide some defensive consistency, which could keep the Tigers rolling in 2018.

Hill-Murray has not yet made a trip to the state tournament, with last year's bid coming up a goal short against Stillwater in the Section 4 final. However, the Pioneers put together an 11-1 season that should give them momentum heading into this season.

With only two seniors on the team, Hill-Murray has the opportunity to start building a solid unit of players that still has the opportunity for immediate success.

Pioneers senior Hannah Ondrusik was second on the team in goals scored last season with 29 while then-freshman Jacey Germundson was third with 22.

The blend of experience and youthful potential combined with the natural improvements of players over the course of the season should give the Pioneers plenty of opportunity for success and, perhaps, their first trip to the state tournament.
