Cretin-Derham Hall

vs. Roseville

7 p.m., Thursday, May 3

This matchup will be the third game in four days for Cretin-Derham Hall — an endurance test it will have to repeat the following week. Two straight weeks of tightly bunched games may be the perfect preparation for the No. 5 Raiders as they look to reach a third consecutive state tournament.

Cretin-Derham Hall has been scoring by committee early in the season, which could give the Raiders (2-0, 2-0) an advantage against some of the stingier defenses in the state. Last season's top scorer Maya Quigley (3 goals, 4 assists) returns, in addition to fellow seniors Elise Hitchcock (5 goals, 3 assists) and Megan Reis (4 goals, 2 assists). Junior Anne Marie Rhoda leads the team in scoring with seven goals.

Roseville launched its season on a roll, demolishing Woodbury 18-1 on April 26. Despite graduating Ciara Colvard's 59 goals, the Raiders (1-0, 1-0) turned in their best margin of victory in the last two years against the Royals.

Freshman Lauren Distad has jumped to the top of Roseville's goals-scored list, notching seven in the first game of the season. Ellie Peine and Hannah Distad return for their senior seasons after scoring 28 goals apiece last year, and both should provide experience and firepower for a Raiders team that will be seeking their first trip to the state tournament come section tournament time.
