St. Michael-Albertville

vs. Delano

7 p.m., Thursday, May 17

St. Michael-Albertville has a chance to three-peat as Greater West Metro Conference champion, but needs a victory Thursday over a Delano program riding its best start to accomplish the feat.

The Knights (9-0, 6-0) have run roughshod through their conference schedule, outscoring competition 119-11 and giving up more than three goals in only one game this season — a 16-4 victory at Rogers on May 3.

St. Michael-Albertville was particularly impressive last week, posting 68 goals in wins against Holy Family (20-1 on May 7), Becker (20-2 on May 10) and Brainerd (28-2 on May 11). Cole Lehmann (24-12-36) tallied 18 points in that span and is among a group of seven Knights runners with at least 19 points on the season.

The Tigers are coming off their first shutout of the season, a 22-0 throttling of Hutchinson last Saturday. Longstick midfielder Sam Kern leads Delano (7-1, 6-0) with 19 takeaways on the season and will need to be disruptive against the Knights’ balanced attack if the Tigers are going to defeat the reigning conference champions.
