Blake vs. Breck

5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2

Blake ended Breck's season with a 12-10 victory in the last year's Section 5 championship game, and the Bears ended up taking third at the state tournament and compiling a 15-4 overall record.

What a difference a year makes. Blake (2-3, 0-1) has struggled out of the gate this season, giving Breck and other teams a chance to dish out what the No. 10-ranked Bears have so often been the ones serving.

While victories haven't come at the same pace as in past seasons for the Bears, it could be only a matter of time before Blake awakens, especially with Jackie Weyerhauser continuing to come up with big outings. The sophomore scored six goals in an 18-7 win against Robbinsdale Armstrong on April 16.

Fourth-ranked Breck is battle-tested thanks to a difficult early season schedule. The Mustangs (3-1, 1-0) prevailed in matchups with No. 5 Stillwater (11-9, April 16) and No. 8 Minnehaha Academy (6-4, April 25), and a victory over their longtime nemesis may be what the team needs to reach its first state tournament.

Opponents must watch out for the strong attack from Breck's Eloise Cherian. The senior midfielder has scored 14 goals this year, including a season-high five in an 18-1 win against Holy Family Catholic in the season opener.
