Rogers vs. Buffalo

7 p.m., Thursday, May 23

The Section 8 crown may be changing hands this season as Rogers and Buffalo look poised to challenge for the throne that Maple Grove has occupied for three consecutive seasons.

Fans wanting a sneak peek of this potential playoff skirmish will get it as Rogers invades Buffalo on Thursday for what should be an epic regular-season finale.

The Royals boast one of the state's most potent offenses, one lethal enough to quell the Bison in this Mississippi 8 Conference clash.

Only a pair of narrow losses has blemished Rogers' record, including a 9-7 defeat to Andover last Friday as the Royals experienced a power outage on offense.

Don't expect that to continue. Rogers (9-2, 7-1) averages 12.5 goals per game this season behind the play of Hailey Hartlage and her 37 goals.

Buffalo should not be overlooked in this game, or this postseason.

The Bison advanced to last season's section championship game, where they lost to the Crimson 9-6.

To get back there and to defeat Rogers, Buffalo (9-1, 8-0) needs primetime performances from its offensive standouts, including Emma Carlson, who scored 44 goals in the team's first eight games.
