Edina vs. Rosemount

7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 23

This nonconference matchup comes with significant implications for both Edina and Rosemount as each team looks to be in the mix in the upcoming Section 6 tournament, along with Prior Lake.

It has been a roller coaster of a season for the No. 7 Hornets. After starting with two wins, Edina (6-5, 3-4) dropped three straight before winning four in a row, including a 5-4 win against No. 5 Eden Prairie on May 9 that vaulted the Hornets into the top-10 rankings.

Edina is looking to break a two-game losing streak against the Irish. Junior attackman Stavros Koumontsis will be a Hornet to watch as he leads the team with 20 goals. In Saturday's 11-7 loss to Benilde-St. Margaret's, the junior netted a hat trick and added an assist.

The Irish (6-5, 4-4) have also had their ups and downs after starting the season ranked in the top 10. Senior attackman Thomas Purfeerst earned statewide attention heading into this season and appears to be peaking as the playoffs near. He leads Rosemount with 29 goals and 11 assists, and he had a hat trick in each of the past three games.
