Speaking of state tournament pedigrees, northern teams have yet to be in the championship conversation. But continued growth and development coupled with ambitious scheduling (Moorhead and Grand Rapids/Greenway are each playing three metro-area teams in the regular season) will undoubtedly change that over time.
Moorhead (3-1) suffered its lone loss against one of those metro teams, falling 11-6 to Elk River/Zimmerman on Saturday. Freshman Abby Kurpius leads the Spuds with 13 goals.
Grand Rapids/Greenway (1-0) beat Hermantown/Proctor 9-4 on April 16 behind three goals from sophomore Caroline Ahcan, who scored 10 goals as an eighth-grader in 2019.
