Fueled by Tucker Sachs' state-leading 28 goals, Chisago Lakes has opened the season with five straight victories, outscoring its opponents 111-8 as it approaches Tuesday’s showdown with Greater West Metro Conference rival St. Cloud (4-1).
Sachs, also a hockey standout, opened the season with two seven-goal games and has kept the momentum going since. He gets plenty of scoring support from sidekick Jake Willman, a junior with 20 goals.
St. Cloud has won four straight since a 9-4 season-opening loss to Moorhead on April 15, including Thursday’s 15-2 victory over Brainerd in which sophomore Joe Torborg and freshman Connor Harens each scored four goals. They lead the team with 14 goals each.
