Wayzata entered the boys’ lacrosse state tournament Tuesday with a losing record. Defending champion Prior Lake aimed to keep it that way.

The Lakers exploded early and never relented in a 12-4 rout at Chanhassen High School.

“We’ve been here before and we know we have to treat every game like it could be our last one,” Prior Lake senior defender Brian Kallberg said. “We made sure we came prepared.”

The advance work showed as the No. 2 Lakers (14-3) went ahead 7-0 in the second quarter.

“That early lead gave us a lot more confidence, especially on defense, to play aggressive and create turnovers,” Kallberg said.
