On a team bursting at the seams with talent, Prior Lake’s Lauren Wick did her best to stay relevant while the rest of the Lakers were rolling through the regular season.

The senior midfielder missed much of the season with a stress fracture in her foot. The Lakers didn’t miss a beat, chalking up a 15-1 record while averaging about 16 goals per game. The last thing she wanted was to be left behind.

“I was glad it wasn’t the rest of the season,” Wick said. “I was glad I still had a chance to come back and help the team.”

Wick, who returned to the lineup for the section playoffs, played a pivotal role for the No. 2-seeded Lakers (16-1) in a 19-6 quarterfinal victory Tuesday over Maple Grove. She was one of five Prior Lake players with at least three goals in the game, a testament to the Lakers’ depth. Wick added three assists.

Prior Lake coach Heather Pierson said losing Lauren and fellow senior Jordan Anderson to injury — Anderson is out for the year with a knee injury — put a premium on the team’s enviable depth.
